Resonating with soil: A speculative sonic inquiry into environmental perception

This CIRCLE seminar with Eleni-Ira Panourgia proposes a listening session and discussion on sound and environmental perception.

Based on a speculative practice at the intersection of sound art, posthuman feminist phenomenology, landscape and climate change research, this seminar explores the question: How can non-human signals, otherwise inaudible to human ears, offer new possibilities for relating to non-human agency, uncover ecological fragilities and suggest new modes of multispecies cohabitation? Sounds of soil organisms guide a speculative sonic response to non-human agency and perception presented in a series of sound pieces titled Cellinsct. This work proposes an interplay between audible and inaudible manifestations of spatiotemporal scales of human and non-human perception, inviting us to learn how to sense beyond our human body.
